Abstract

Malignancy of oral cavity is a major health burden in India, which contributes to 1/3rd of the global oral cancers. Annual incidence of oral cavity cancers is 77,000 and death due to these cancers is estimated to be 52,000 per year. Among them, 84-97% of oral cancers are histologically diagnosed as Squamous cell carcinomas, thus accounting to be the most common histologic type. (1)
