Abstract

The loneliness experienced by our elders and social isolation have increased in our households. The concept of active aging, promoted by the WHO, encourages the "process of growing older without aging through the continuous development of physical, social, and spiritual activities throughout life." Healthy aging poses a significant challenge. It is not merely a biological process; it is influenced by biological and social factors. Ibarra & Hernández-Mosqueira (2009) suggests that key elements for successful aging include attaining happiness, finding meaning in life with gratitude, and avoiding stress.

Research focuses on understanding the cognitive state of individuals through loneliness. The sample comprised 150 individuals from a Senior Center in the Community of Madrid. Data collection took place at the center, utilizing the AD8 test and the Este II Scale to assess cognitive development and evaluate social isolation. A descriptive and correlational study was conducted on the obtained data. The results indicate that human loneliness can impact the cognitive state of older individuals.
