Abstract
Evaluation of the effect of extract of date pit on alloxan-induced diabetes in rabbits indicated that treatment with alloxan alone caused a significant increase (p<0.05) in plasma glucose compared to control group. On other hand, this effect was alleviated with date pits and caused decrease in the plasma glucose level compared to diabetic group. Treatment with alloxan alone caused a significant (p<0.05) decrease in plasma total protein (TP) and albumin and it resulted in a significant increase (p<0.05) in plasma bilirubin, urea and creatinine compared to control group.Treatment of alloxan-diabetic rabbits with date pits reversed the effect and caused an Increase in the plasma TP and albumin compared to the non-treated diabetic group. Alloxan also decreased plasma urea, creatinine and bilirubin. While, treatment with date pits alone increased plasma levels of TP and albumin and decreased urea, creatinine and bilirubin plasma levels in male rabbbits.
